Privacy Policy
What data Before You Call a Pro collects, which cookies and browser storage it uses, who receives data, how long we keep it, and how to use your rights.
Effective Last updated
This policy explains what personal data Before You Call a Pro ("we", "the site") collects when you visit beforeyoucallapro.com, why we collect it, who else receives it, and the choices and rights you have. It is also our cookie policy.
Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is Evrenus Fırat Polat, who operates beforeyoucallapro.com from Kocaeli, Türkiye. You can reach the controller at [email protected]. Email is the only contact channel.
What we collect
Server logs
When your browser loads a page, our web server records your IP address, your browser's user agent, the address of the page and the time of the request. We use these logs to keep the site secure and working, for example to spot attacks and errors. Logs are deleted automatically within 14 days.
Cookies from Google services
The site shows no ads, so no advertising or consent service sets cookies here. Google Analytics sets cookies only when it is turned on. The cookie table below lists them.
Data that stays in your browser
The site saves two small settings in your browser's local storage: your light or dark theme, and the boxes you tick on a printable checklist. They never leave your device, and we can't see them. Clear the site data in your browser to remove them.
The diagnose questions and the repair-or-replace calculator run in your browser. Your answers may appear in the page address after the # sign, so you can share a result. That part of an address is not sent to the server when a page is requested, as MDN's reference on URL fragments explains.
Emails you send us
If you email us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it and what you write. We use it only to reply and to act on your message, for example to fix an error.
What we don't collect
We have no accounts, passwords, payment forms, contact forms, comments or newsletter sign-ups. We don't ask for sensitive data, such as health information, and we don't knowingly collect it.
Advertising
The site shows no ads. No ad network serves ads, sets advertising cookies or receives data from our pages. If we start to show ads, we will update this policy first: this section will then explain who serves the ads, which cookies they use and how to opt out.
Analytics
We may use Google Analytics 4 to learn which pages and tools help people. When it is on, it records the pages you view, your device and browser type, your approximate location based on your IP address, and events such as an answer picked in the diagnose questions or a checklist being printed. These events never contain your name or email address. When you look up an error code, only the code itself, up to 12 letters and digits, is recorded.
When Analytics is on, we keep its data for 14 months, turn Google signals and ads personalization off for our property, and don't link it to Google Ads. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Analytics stores cookies only after you consent. The site shows no consent message today, so Analytics stores no cookies there.
Affiliate links
The site has no affiliate links, and no retailer receives data from our pages. If we add affiliate links, we will update this policy first: this section will then explain what data the retailer receives when you follow one.
Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. Analytics cookies measure how the site is used. The site sets no advertising cookies.
The table lists the cookies and local storage items that may be used on this site. Cookie names may include the ones below; vendors may change names, add cookies or change how long they last. Google publishes its current list for Google Analytics in Cookie usage on websites.
| Name | Provider | Category | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics, when on | Analytics: tells visitors apart | 2 years |
_ga_ and an ID | Google Analytics, when on | Analytics: keeps session state | 2 years |
theme (local storage) | This site | Necessary: remembers your light or dark theme | Until you clear it |
cl: and a checklist name (local storage) | This site | Necessary: remembers your checklist ticks | Until you clear it |
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some features, such as saved checklist ticks, won't work without local storage.
Legal bases in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland
- Consent for analytics cookies, when Analytics is on. Without your consent, Analytics stores no cookies.
- Legitimate interests for server logs, which keep the site secure and working, and for replying to your emails.
- Legal obligation when a law requires us to keep or disclose data.
International transfers
We are based in Türkiye, and the services we use process data in other countries, including the United States. Google states that it relies on standard contractual clauses for data transfers where required, and that Google LLC has certified that it adheres to the principles of the EU-U.S. and Swiss-U.S. Data Privacy Frameworks (Google's data transfer frameworks). Our hosting and email providers may also process data outside the country where you live.
Your rights under the GDPR and UK GDPR
If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, you have these rights:
- Access: get a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification: have inaccurate data corrected.
- Erasure: have your data deleted.
- Restriction: limit how we process it.
- Objection: object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Portability: receive your data in a portable format.
- Withdrawing consent: withdraw your consent at any time.
- Complaint: complain to a data protection authority. In the EU and EEA, the European Data Protection Board lists the national authorities. In the UK, it is the Information Commissioner's Office.
Email us to use any of these rights. We reply within 30 days. We hold very little data about you. To find your server log entries, for example, we need the IP address and the time of your visit, and logs older than 14 days no longer exist.
US state privacy rights
California and several other US states give residents rights over their personal information. We honor these rights for every US visitor:
- Know and access: ask what personal information we collected about you and get a copy.
- Delete: ask us to delete it.
- Correct: ask us to fix inaccurate information.
- Opt out: opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information and of targeted advertising.
- Appeal: if we refuse a request, our reply explains why and how to appeal. Reply to that email with "Appeal" in the subject, and we will review the decision and answer in writing.
- No discrimination: we never treat you differently for using these rights.
We don't collect sensitive personal information, so there is nothing to limit under a "right to limit". California's privacy agency describes these rights in its CCPA frequently asked questions.
Notice at collection
| Category | Examples | Why we collect it | How long we keep it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Identifiers | IP address; cookie IDs when Analytics is on | Security; analytics | Server logs: up to 14 days. Cookies: see the cookie table |
| Internet activity | Pages viewed; tool events, when Analytics is on | Improving pages and tools | Analytics: 14 months |
| Approximate location | Estimated from your IP address | Analytics reports | As above |
| Communications | Your email address and message | Replying to you; fixing errors | Only as long as needed to handle your message |
We don't sell or share personal information, and the site shows no ads, so there is no targeted advertising.
Do Not Sell or Share, and Global Privacy Control
The Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information link at the bottom of every page leads to this policy. We don't sell or share personal information today, so you are already opted out. We also treat a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser as a valid request to opt out of sale and sharing for that browser. When we receive it and Analytics is on, Analytics doesn't use your data for ads. California's privacy agency says businesses must honor qualifying opt-out preference signals such as Global Privacy Control.
California: Do Not Track and CalOPPA
Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" signal. The site does not change how it works when it receives one. We do honor Global Privacy Control, as described above. No ad company collects information on this site. When Analytics is on, Google collects information about your visits to this site, as the analytics section explains.
Children's privacy and COPPA
This site is written for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email us and we will delete it. The Federal Trade Commission explains the Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule.
How long we keep data
- Server logs: deleted automatically within 14 days.
- Emails: kept only as long as needed to handle your message and any follow-up. A correction stays listed on the corrections page without your name.
- Cookies: as listed in the cookie table, or until you delete them.
- Analytics data: 14 months, when Analytics is on.
Security
The site is served only over HTTPS. Only the site operator can access the server logs and the mailbox. We don't store passwords or payment details, because we never collect them. No method of storing or sending data is completely secure, but we keep what we hold small.
Your choices
- Privacy settings and Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information, at the bottom of every page, lead to this section. The site shows no ads and no consent message, and it sells or shares no data, so there is nothing to switch off today.
- Global Privacy Control: turn it on in a browser or extension that supports it, and we treat it as an opt-out.
- Your browser: block or delete cookies and site data at any time.
- Email us: use any right in this policy by writing to [email protected].
Türkiye: privacy notice under KVKK (Law No. 6698)
This section is the privacy notice (aydınlatma metni) required by Article 10 of Turkish Law No. 6698 on the Protection of Personal Data ("KVKK"). If the English and Turkish texts of the Law differ, the Turkish text prevails.
- Data controller: Evrenus Fırat Polat, Kocaeli, Türkiye, [email protected].
- Purposes: running and securing the site; measuring how the site is used, when Analytics is on; replying to and acting on your emails.
- Legal bases (Article 5): your explicit consent (Article 5(1)) for analytics cookies; the legitimate interests of the data controller (Article 5(2)(f)) for server logs and email replies, provided this does not harm your fundamental rights and freedoms.
- How data is collected: automatically, through server logs, cookies and similar technologies, and directly, when you email us.
- Who receives it: our hosting and email providers; Google, in the United States and other countries, for analytics when it is on. Transfers abroad are subject to Article 9 of the Law.
- Your rights (Article 11): to learn whether your data is processed; to request information about it; to learn the purpose of processing and whether the data is used for that purpose; to know the third parties in Türkiye or abroad who receive it; to ask for incomplete or wrong data to be corrected; to ask for deletion or destruction under Article 7; to ask that third parties who received your data be told about such a correction or deletion; to object to a result against you that comes only from automated analysis; and to claim compensation for damage caused by unlawful processing.
- How to apply (Article 13): email us. We answer within 30 days at the latest. Requests are free unless the action has an extra cost, in which case a fee set by the Personal Data Protection Board may apply.
- Complaints (Article 14): if we refuse your request, our answer is not enough or we don't answer in time, you may complain to the Personal Data Protection Board (Kişisel Verileri Koruma Kurulu) through the Personal Data Protection Authority within 30 days of learning our answer, and in any case within 60 days of your request.
Changes to this policy
We review this policy at least once every 12 months, and whenever our tools or services change. The dates at the top show when this version took effect and when it was last updated. If a change affects how we use your data, we will say so at the top of this page for at least 30 days.
